Layton Construction Donates $20,000 to Cancer Research

Layton Construction Community Affairs Director, Julie Layton, and President and CEO, David S. Layton, present a check for $20,000 to the 5 For The Fight campaign to fund cancer research at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Company pledges to donate a total of $100,000 over 5 years

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (December 27, 2017) – Layton Construction teamed up this month with Utah Jazz player Ricky Rubio to fight cancer, matching the point guard's donation of $20,000 to the 5 for the Fight Foundation.

The 5 For The Fight campaign is committed to raising $50 million for cancer research.

Layton, a nationally-ranked commercial contractor and one of Utah's fastest growing companies, has pledged to donate $20,000 per year over the next five years for a total of $100,000. The funds will support research at the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

“We hate cancer,” David Layton said. “We’ve lost parents and employees to cancer, so we strongly support the Huntsman Cancer Institute.”

The cause is personal for Rubio, too. He lost his mother to lung cancer in 2016. Both Rubio's and Layton Construction’s checks were marked designated for lung cancer research.

Rubio recently launched a PLEDGE IT campaign inviting fans to donate a specific amount of money for every assist he makes this season with the goal of raising $150,000. Both Rubio and corporate partners are matching gifts made by fans. The first $20,000 in donations was matched by Layton.

The 5 For The Fight campaign was started in 2016 by Qualtrics, the leader in experience management. In 2017, Qualtrics announced that it would be sponsoring the patch on the Utah Jazz jerseys. Instead of putting the Qualtrics logo on the patch, however, the 5 For The Fight logo will take its place for at least one season.
